For blocked drains in Hampshire, we're a good call if you live in the west of the county. Our engineers are based in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, just over the Dorset border, so New Milton, Ringwood and Lymington are a short drive. Southampton is further. Beyond it, a drainage company based nearer may well reach you first, and we'd rather tell you that than keep you waiting.

Which company runs your sewer in Hampshire
Most of Hampshire's public sewers belong to Southern Water, but west Hampshire is mixed. These are the places we've checked:

In New Milton and Lymington, Bournemouth Water supplies the drinking water while Southern Water handles wastewater, so two bills for one house is normal. If your village isn't listed, your sewerage bill names the company.
Wherever you are, the 2011 rule is the same. A drain shared with a neighbour, and your own drain once it leaves your boundary, belong to the water company, which clears them free. The pipe serving only your home, inside your boundary, is yours. More in who is responsible for blocked drains.
Road drains: county, city and what's changing
Hampshire County Council looks after roadside gullies across most of the county, including the New Forest, and takes reports on its website. Southampton and Portsmouth run their own roads, so gullies there go to the city council. The government had planned to replace all of these councils with new unitary councils from 2028, but withdrew that decision on 7 September 2026 and is reviewing it. West Hampshire's ground and water
Ringwood sits low in the Avon valley. Wessex Water's own report says groundwater there reached critical levels in winter 2024 to 2025, with its Bickerley pumping station running for long periods. Its plan includes sealing sewers and manholes against groundwater, and inspecting private gullies, drains and manholes where needed. If your toilets slow down each wet winter, that may be the network rather than your pipe.
Across the New Forest, Southern Water describes the ground as largely impermeable clay and sand, so rain runs off fast. A soakaway there needs a proper soakage test before anyone digs, and an old one that has silted up can sometimes be brought back with soakaway repair.

Does Southern Water unblock drains in Hampshire?
Yes, when the blockage sits in a public sewer, a shared drain or the part of your drain beyond your boundary. Southern Water clears those free: call 0330 303 0368. The pipe serving only your home, inside your boundary, is your responsibility. In Ringwood and Fordingbridge the sewers are Wessex Water's instead.
Do you cover Southampton?
Yes, as part of our wider area. Southampton is about 24 miles by road from Christchurch, so expect usually within 90 minutes rather than our fastest times, and longer at rush hour. For planned work such as a CCTV survey, distance makes little difference: we book a time that suits you.
I live in New Milton. Why do I get bills from two water companies?
Because two companies serve your home. Bournemouth Water supplies your drinking water, and Southern Water collects and treats your wastewater, so each bills for its own part. For a blocked sewer or shared drain, Southern Water is the one to call. For the pipe serving only your home, call us.
Who clears a blocked road drain in the New Forest?
Hampshire County Council, which looks after roadside gullies across the county outside Southampton and Portsmouth. Report it on the council's website. Sewage from a manhole in the road is a different matter: that's the sewer, so call the water company.
